Lois & Clark: The Musical

Jude started this writing challenge in the Fanfic folder, so I should just let her tell the story.

“Over on the Lois and Clark boards, Zoom is revisiting our favorite saga with some WAFFY posts and great screen caps, while a group of FOLCs is compiling lists of L&C songs. I had been running back and forth between the two until, dizzy and dichotomized, I rounded a corner, bumping into myself and knocking me down. Picking us up, I noticed with horror that the songs had fallen all over Zoom’s “Evolution” which I had been reading. “Look!” I exclaimed, “This WAFFY story has songs all over it!” I replied, “And these songs are all mixed up by this WAFFY story!” I looked at me and me looked back, as light dawned. “Eureka!” we cried. And that’s how the idea for this challenge was born. LOIS AND CLARK, THE MUSICAL. ALL TALKING, ALL SINGING, EVEN DANCING IF YOU WANT!

Here’s the deal. Take a scene you love or one you detest and turn it into a scene from one of those old time Hollywood musicals. You know, where the guy and the gal are really in love but won’t admit it, and they’re thrown together, really close together; they look into each other’s eyes; they get closer and closer but they’re afraid to speak. Then one takes the initiative, head tilts, lips part, and s/he …STARTS TO SING! (Yes, there’s a reason they don’t make those movies anymore.) You have to put in at least one verse and chorus of the lyrics of whatever song you have chosen. You can re-write some of the words if you want. You CANNOT use any songs that were used in the series unless you re-write the lyrics or use the song in a different context.

This is for fun, but you can play it any way you like: WAFFY, comedy, drama, even horror. Be creative. We can all come up with love songs for Lois and Clark, but who can come up with something for Perry or Jimmy or Ellen to sing. Or Lex! Now there’s a real challenge.”

And did FoLCS ever rise to the challenge. If anyone entertained the thought that we were only interested in Lois and Clark, were they in for a big surprise. Many in the group are quite familiar with both film and Broadway musicals.

All four seasons of the show were represented. The musicals ranged from poignant and sensitive to the utterly ridiculous. Sit back and enjoy as we take you on a musical tour of our favorite series.
